Dasher Diary: Amarillo DoorDash Driver Finds Rare ‘Unicorn’ Tip
As a delivery driver in Amarillo, there are times you get some really terrible deliveries. Sometimes, the app expects you to drive all over town, pick up food, and deliver for just two dollars. Who would do that? Someone, maybe - but not me.”
If I am going to be out working, using my car and gas, I need to take the deliveries that make sense. I am not going to kill my car for a few bucks. My car is coming to the end of the road anyway. It has over 100,000 miles. I can see the writing on the wall. I have had it forever. I am just enjoying not having a car payment for as long as I can. Plus, I just really love my car.
Why Low-Paying Deliveries Don’t Cut It

Sometimes you don't even know you are making such a delivery. Recently, I went and picked up an order from Fun Noodle Bar. Easy pick up and then deliver it to a home in North Amarillo.
The Fun Noodle Bar Delivery That Changed the Day
The food was ready when I got there. Everything pointed to a smooth delivery. I delivered the food. I already knew I was making $6 off the delivery. I couldn't get on to deliver by time, so I knew when I accepted how much I was going to make. It was not a bad delivery for the mileage.
What Is a Unicorn Delivery?
Once I dropped off and got back to my delivery area, I received a notification from DoorDash. It's one of those messages you always hope for. They don't happen all of the time, but are much appreciated when you receive them.
That delivery, which started off as a six-dollar delivery now escalated to a twenty-one-dollar drop off. This was one delivery I was thrilled to take. The customer had already tipped me four dollars and then decided to up my tip by another fifteen dollars.
I don't know why, and I really wish that DoorDash had a way that we could say thanks to our customers. Uber Eats does. I wouldn't be mad if this customer saw this story, so he could see how much that extra tip meant to me.
There are some deliveries in Amarillo that just make your day, and this was one of them.
