[GALLERY] Why Your Next Trip To Wonderland Park in Amarillo Needs To Last Until Close
There is something magical about seeing the bright lights in the night sky of Amarillo. Things just seem so different when things are shining bright at night. This is true on the streets of Amarillo and certainly when at Wonderland Park.
We've taken our granddaughter out to Wonderland four times already this season, continuing a yearly tradition she's enjoyed ever since she learned how to walk. Having a season pass has convinced us to go multiple times this season.
The Magic of Wonderland Park After Dark
The one thing we have never done with her is stay until close. I mean, she is just now four years old, so it's not like her bedtime allowed it in the years past. We decided that she needed to see the park all lit up.
Breaking Bedtimes for a Late-Night Adventure
So over the weekend we had her take a nap so that she would be raring to go and ready to run around the park. We got there at about 7 pm, but this is summer, and the sun stays up a lot later.
Chasing Sunsets, Funnel Cakes, and Neon Lights
After riding our favorites and sharing some funnel cake, we patiently waited for dusk, eager to watch the park transform under the evening lights.

There is just something about being at Wonderland when it is dark. We were all ready. Then it happened, and the lights started to shine bright. We had to walk around and check out every ride.
The Curious Case of the Texas Tornado
Curiously enough, the massive Texas Tornado roller coaster sat dark amidst the glowing neon spectacle, leaving us wondering why it missed out on the light-up treatment. Regardless, it's such a sight that brought me back to my nights growing up and running around out at Wonderland Park.
If you haven't kept the kids up just a little past their bedtime this summer to experience Wonderland Park under the lights, you're missing out. There truly is nothing quite like a summer night out at the park with the people you love.
