The Biggest Driving Headaches Amarillo Drivers Complain About
When it comes to driving in Amarillo, there are headaches we all have. There are places we know we will travel just to collectively let out a curse word. Even the strongest of people who do not cuss are tempted. We know. We don't judge.
Driving around Amarillo can be a different story every day, but it all leads us back to the headaches we all experience around town. How do some of these things happen? We know we all experience it, and we all head to the "Who's This Bad Driver in Amarillo" Facebook page to vent.

Like the mugshot pages in our area, we hope to never land on the bad driver page as well. We scroll through and breathe a sigh of relief when our car is not posted. We survived another day. But hey, we really are not as bad as others out there. We all deal with the awful things in Amarillo.
Highway Merges and Exits: Amarillo’s Daily Struggle
There are things we all experience in Amarillo that tend to drive us all crazy:
- The Entrance/Exit on Highways: Whether it is I-40 or I-27, we deal with the same problems. The person who doesn't accelerate when entering the highway. Some even come to a complete stop when entering. What are you doing? You are going to cause a wreck. Exiting is just as bad. We have the people who have an obvious yield sign and can't be bothered to do just that. These are wrecks just waiting to happen.
Rush Hour Traffic Across Amarillo’s Busy Streets
- The Rush Hour Traffic: I know the traffic is nowhere near as bad as being in Dallas, I get that. Still try to get down Georgia Street, Bell, or any of our big streets after 5 pm. You know what I am talking about.
How Amarillo Weather Makes Driving Worse
- The Roads When There is Weather: When it rains, we have to deal with the flooding in certain areas. Our cars don't know how to swim, but a lot of people insist on making them try. During the winter, for whatever reason, the snow gets plowed into the middle of the road. You do realize that people do need to make a left-hand turn every once in a while, right?
- Semi-Trucks on the Highway: I get that they are bigger than us, and they scare a lot of us on the roads. Can you please not travel in the right-hand lane when there are people entering the highway? Can you please move over to avoid us having a heart attack as we are trying to enter I-40?
- Downtown Driving: The headaches that are in downtown Amarillo. From trying to figure out which streets are one-way and in which direction. Trying to figure out where we can and can't park. Oh, and parking, if you have to actually use your parallel parking skills. Can we work on any of those?
Construction, Closures, and Potholes: Daily Frustrations
- Construction and Lane Closures: This is always a fun one. There are cones put up without warning, and we are all trying to get over. Then the next day, they are in a different location. We never know for sure where the construction is going to be. We just know that every day we will encounter some, somewhere.
- Potholes: I think that is all I have to really say about that.
Yes, we can all unite when it comes to some of the day-to-day headaches of driving around Amarillo. Just know that whatever headache you have today will totally change tomorrow.
