Amarillo Finds Creative Way to Stay Cool in Record Breaking Heat
The saying in Amarillo is if you don't like the weather wait ten minutes, it will change unless you are talking about this summer and this heat. We have seen a lot of hot days. We have felt a lot of triple-digit heat weather.
We broke the record on Saturday with nine straight days of at least one hundred degrees. Until we broke it again on Sunday with our tenth. We have been looking for ways to stay cool. We have been doing unusual things to try to catch a break. Everything goes when it is that hot.
So as I was driving around doing a little side hustle work over the weekend I noticed something that looked like a lot of fun. I was driving down Virginia Street when this pool party caught my attention. Now it's not unusual to have a pool party when we have seen triple digit temperatures a total of ten days in a row.
A lot of times you don't even know they are happening because the pool and the fun is all happening behind a fence in the backyard. Oh, but not this pool party. Not only were they having a good time they wanted everyone to join in the fun.
On this hot day on Virginia Street in Amarillo, a front yard was bombarded with people and pools. Oh, and a very well-placed sign. One that encouraged us to honk for them. That honk encouraged them to have a drink and wave. I know because I honked a few times to join in on the fun.
I finally went by later and stopped and chatted with the nice party-goers. I thought at first they would be all weirded out that I was crashing their fun. Nope, they even offered me a drink. They had a margarita and popcorn machines too. This was a day of fun.
We may have had some very hot days here in Amarillo recently but that did not keep our spirits down. In fact it helped some in Amarillo find a creative way to get out and embrace the hotness.
