I love driving around Amarillo because there is always something new to discover. Maybe it's a new business, a new place to eat, or just something you haven't noticed before. The best is when you watch a project start and are still around to watch it finish and turn into something else.

What Used to Be on This Lot?

There is a property near the Canyon Expressway (I-27) and Georgia Street that was once Golden Spread Motorplex. It had been on that corner lot for many, many years. Then they decided to move further down Georgia Street, leaving that prime location vacant.

Demolition Catches Amarillo’s Attention

That emptiness has become even more apparent as the building and everything on the property have started to be demolished. That demolition had just started earlier this week. People have noticed and wondered what that means. What might come to that location in Amarillo?

What Locals Think Is Coming Next

The question has been asked several times on social media. There have been many answers. People joke that it is probably another coffee shop or vape shop. That is a fair guess with the overwhelming number of those types of places already in Amarillo.

We have the jokesters who jump in to say it's going to be an H-E-B, Cheesecake Factory, or a much-needed other Long John Silver's location. I mean, they are not wrong with the number of days people have lined up to get fish from the only location in Amarillo.

What We Actually Know So Far

Some have said that it is going to be a shopping center, and that is what it is looking to be true. Checking out Potter-Randall Appraisal District, that property is now owned by Wolflin Business Center.

The Excitement of Watching Amarillo Grow

Now, what businesses could fill up this shopping center is anyone's guess. They have to have it built first and then I am assuming they will start filling it up. Will there be new food places? New places to shop? All of those could happen.

Maybe they have an idea already. We don't. It will be fun to watch.
