It's always fun to watch in Amarillo. Starting the week of Thanksgiving until Giving Tuesday, Amarillo opens their hearts and their wallets and participates in a big way during The Panhandle Gives.

Oh, and boy do we. It's fun to watch the digital billboards in town go up each and every day representing how much money is given to these local non-profits. Then with the amplification process money that is donated by our community has a chance to be matched.

So we get to watch those numbers grow even bigger. We know that the money we give will help out so many deserving local non-profits. This year there were a total of 261 organizations looking for donations during this campaign and Amarillo did not disappoint.

As Giving Tuesday came and went we just waited for the final numbers to start rolling in. We were very curious to see just how giving our community ended up being. The Panhandle Gives social media page teased recently that the answer was coming.

When the time came and the news hit our city I couldn't believe how much was on the board. Over eleven million dollars was raised in a little over a week. That week had a lot going on with Thanksgiving, Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, and Cyber Monday but we all kept giving through Giving Tuesday.

That was a good week when 261 organizations here in the Texas Panhandle were blessed with money to help them this upcoming year.  Amarillo and the surrounding areas really stepped up to make that a reality.

It's exciting every year to continue to watch a program that has been around for less than a decade. Every year it seems to grow even more.
