As the weather is cooling a bit in Amarillo people who like to get a bit of walking exercise during the cold months are looking for alternate places to walk. They don't want to lose out on the steps. They don't want to miss out on the benefits of walking. So during the colder months, you have to punt and find another place to walk.

A very popular walking location has always been the mall. Mall walkers are a thing because of that. The mall is perfect for walking because it is a big area that you can walk around several times to get your steps in. You can also do some window shopping while you are at it. It is a win-win for the mall and the walkers.

I know a buddy and I have done that a time or two when we had to get training walks in but the weather was not cooperating. It was either that or walking on the treadmill at Planet Fitness, which we have done as well.

Our mall has had some changes to their hours since Covid. It used to be, back in the day, that the mall would open up around 10 am and some of the anchor stores would open up around 9 am. With the anchor stores opening up they would also open the main mall entrances. That made it easier for mall walkers to utilize the mall as one of their places.

Now the mall weirdly doesn't open up until 11 am. I had forgotten that useful information several times when I drove there to get some photos for a story. The mall is closed. The main entrances are closed. Even the anchor stores, like Dillard's, don't open until 11 am.

That is a two-hour difference from when you used to use the mall as a walking location. You can not walk at Westgate Mall until after 11 am. Just know that time is 12 pm on Sunday. All of us early walkers are having to sleep in or find another location.
