Amarillo Metro Area Among Most Dangerous COVID Areas In The U.S.
Just when you thought things were getting better, this hits us square between the eyes. Amarillo is apparently a hotbed for COVID-19...still.
Almost a year and a half into the pandemic, we're seeing restrictions lifted, less and less masks being worn and large size events coming back at full capacity. The main reason for all this is that the vaccines are readily available and quite a few have taken advantage of that.

The vaccine doesn't BLOCK you from getting COVID, it does help you from avoiding it for sure but you can still contract it. We know this is something that is never going away, and we have to remain vigilant against it so we don't end up where we were last year. Amarillo unfortunately is a scary place to be still when it comes to COVID.
According to this article from 247wallst.com, Amarillo checks in at number 26 out of 383 metro areas as far as cases per 100,000 residents. The number for us? A staggering 13,530 confirmed cases per 100,000 people as of June 23. Yeah, a 13.5% of residents in Amarillo have had a confirmed case of COVID. Compare that to the 10% per 100,000 Americans and you get the idea.
As happy as we all are that life SEEMS to be getting back to normal, it appears we may be taking it a bit too cavalier here in Bomb City. We still need to be sure we're getting tested if we are showing symptoms. I know it stinks, but ultimately it's the only way we can ensure the spread slowing down. Don't just think that the slight cold or flu symptoms are just that. It hasn't gone away, it's not going away, so let's be vigilant and keep each other safe.
