There was a time when life was a little more simple and innocent. That was until that fateful day in 2011 when the Amarillo Sox decided to introduce their new mascot. You know the one I am talking about.

The one that convinced management that we really did all have dirty minds. Yes, I am talking about the sock. That sock. The one that made one appearance on the field before enough complaints rolled in that he was retired.

Off to see better days and a better mascot in Bobby Sox. Bobby Sox was a little less offensive. That didn't mean that Amarillo actually saw the last of that sock on our Potter County Memorial Field. He did have a return appearance once before he saw his demise.

That Amarillo Sock did find a place on eBay but was never sold. Where is it now? I am pretty sure I know who ended up with possession of that embarrassment in Amarillo mascot history. Oh, but was it really? We were the talk of the country for a while. This little ballpark in Amarillo Texas had a really offensive mascot on the field. We made all sorts of national news.

There was one hot summer night in Amarillo when that Amarillo Sock mascot got what he deserved. There is a video to prove it. No warning. No big publicity just that sock making a quick comeback and giving the fans another reason to laugh as they watched Bobby Sox finally have the chance to ummmm, take him down.

What is funny is in the video you can hear me as I am one of the people on the mic. We didn't even really know the plan with the Sock and Bobby. It was just a moment of greatness in small-town baseball.

Something that is gone from Amarillo. I miss those days. I miss those laughs. I know I am not the only one. This mascot would have never made it at Hodgetown and that is the beauty of simple baseball.

Amarillo it was fun.
