Amarillo Restaurant Dodges Fire Disaster Thanks to Timely Help
An Amarillo business could have lost it all if it wasn't for someone being at the right place at the right time. Once your workday ends and you close up you try to go home and decompress.
You already know you are going to have another busy day tomorrow. So the thoughts of going home to a little family time and hopefully a little time to yourself is good to have. That did not happen recently in downtown Amarillo. Oh, but it could have been much worse.
Yolanda Grazier, owner of Yolo's in downtown Amarillo is very thankful for the way things turned out. She knows that her night could have been much worse. Her restaurant, Yolo's closed up for the day. That is where the story should have ended for her Thursday. It did not.
She heard from a customer about a fire outside of her restaurant that evening. Luckily that customer works close by and saw it. He called 911 and then called Yolanda. The fact that he was in the right place at the right time really saved the day.
He noticed a fire in a flower pot outside the restaurant. One that could have spread and caused a lot of damage. It did cause some but because of the fast call and response, they are still going to be able to open up for business this morning.
According to Yolo's Facebook post:
My heart aches yall..Someone started a fire in our giant flower pot this evening at Yolos next to our front door...this is so upsetting for us. To know that everything you have worked so hard to build can be taken away so fast.. Flames got above our awning and up our brick before bieng extinguished. We are very lucky it didnt spread further. We do have some minor damage and clean up to do but we will be OPEN in the morning..please keep supporting us;)
A HUGE heartfeld THANK YOU to one of our amazing customers who works near by and saw it and called 911 and then called me. This could have been a catastrophic loss for us. We are blessed and thankfull for the quick response of AFD. We hope to see yall at Yolos tomorrow!
There is no word on how the fire started. It could have been someone being careless. I'm hoping it was not intentional. This all happened in downtown Amarillo so there is not really any answers yet.
The only thing that we can be happy to say is that Yolanda didn't lose her business. This is great news because of the way our wind is here in Amarillo and without a customer being close by this could have had a different ending.
