As I was driving back into Amarillo yesterday from a road trip with my family, we ran into some major traffic on I-40. One of the things we picked up on was that there were quite a few exits that were closed off, and we weren't aware of it.

After being in the car for nearly 10 hours only to find out we needed to re-route and take a different way back to our house was a little frustrating. So naturally, I got home and looked up what was going on with I-40 and all the closures.

Well, I found some bad news. Things are going to be a bit hairy this week if you're traveling on the highway, and there's a good chance you're going to think ahead when it comes to getting home if you live in the area of the interchange from I-40 to I-27.

They're currently doing some bridge work and it's going to create obviously some lane closures on the highway, but as found out yesterday, it's going to create some on-ramp and off-ramp closures as well.

Over the course of the week, you can expect these ramps to be intermittently closed.

Georgia St. to EB I-40 entrance ramp
EB I-40 to Washington St. exit ramp
Washington St. to EB I-40 entrance ramp
EB I-40 to SB I-27 exit ramp
EB I-40 to NB US 287 exit ramp
SB US 287 to EB I-40 entrance ramp

In other words, the heart of the city could be relatively difficult to get into and out of, so you will want to plan on alternate routes at least for this week.
