October School Closures in Amarillo: What Parents Need to Know
Since the kiddos are in school, we basically know that every month they will have at least one day off of school in Amarillo. In September, they had Labor Day. That has come and gone.
We are approaching October, and just a heads up, the kiddos have more than one day off. They are looking forward to a four-day weekend. You may not be aware of that. So here we are making you aware.
When Amarillo Schools Close in October
They are usually out one day for Columbus Day (also recognized as Indigenous Peoples’ Day). That falls on Monday, October 13th. What you may not know is that they also have the previous Friday off. So mark your calendars so you don't forget they are also off October 10th.
Why Parents Struggle With Four-Day Weekends
What do you do with two days off? I mean, sometimes you can punt and find a way to manage one day, but this is a four-day weekend. Daycare may not be an option either, as many close when schools do, like ours. That is frustrating.

I mean, you need daycare, and you need them when school is closed. So that may not be an option. You may not have family that can help. You may have to work. So what do you do now?
Discovery Center’s Spooktacular Camp Details
Luckily, there are places that don't close when the schools do and can help. One of those places is the Discovery Center. A fun place the kids love to hang out at anyway so it is a win.
You can choose half or full-day care, and they even have early or late pick up to accommodate your work schedule. Definitely a big help for some parents. According to the Discovery Center's social media:
