As we all know, Amarillo has one of the highest crime rates in Texas.

Sure, a lot of it is property crime, and some of it is truly violent crime.

I feel like we've been dealing with some other types of crime lately though that should just never happen, and is a complete detriment to the city.

Once again, we have someone who has been charged with sexual crimes involving minors in the city.

Brad Lynn Ivy was arrested and booked in Potter County on 12 counts of child sex crimes on Monday.

The incidents involved two teenage girls under the age of 17 from June 1, 2022 to December 1, 2023. He's been officially charged with eight counts of sexual assault and four counts of indecency with a child sexual contact.

This is on the heels of the case ongoing right now involving the former Perryton football coach and athletic directory Cole Underwood. If you haven't caught up on that case, it involves one girl on numerous occasions.

As this kind of thing becomes more prevalent in Amarillo, we have to start asking ourselves how we can get it to stop.

With technology these days, it's so easy to make connections with people. Dating apps, social media, etc. make it very easy to find people and start conversations.

Is it education the kids are lacking? Are the adults just THAT good at coercing these underage children into what they want? No matter what it may be, we have to do a better job of putting it to rest.

I want my kids, and all the other kids in Amarillo, to feel safe and understand that it's never ok for an adult to be "making a move" on a minor. Sadly, I'm afraid this problem is only going to get worse before it gets better here.

Take a look at daily life behind bars in Texas...then stay away from it.

What Is A Day Like In Texas Prisons? A View From Both Sides Of The Bars

Have you ever wondered what life inside a Texas prison is really like? I asked friends who are correction officers and folks who have volunteered at jails. I also asked former inmates, and browsed forums and articles with current and former inmates. Put all together, it paints what I hope is a fairly accurate picture of daily prison life in Texas.
