Amarillo Buzzing Over Mystery Store Taking Over Western Ave Spot
Back in June, an Amarillo business location sold, leading to many wondering what is next. The location in question is 1920 S Western. It's right across the street in one direction from the McDonald's. In another direction is the now-empty Subway.
The History of This Amarillo Location
Since the sale, a lot of people want to know what is moving in. It used to be a Payless ShoeSource many years ago. We already know that a business out of Wichita Falls bought it.

Renovations Fuel Speculation Online
Now, whether or not they leased it out to someone else is unknown. We do know that a lot of work is being done on the location. There has been a lot of painting and work on the windows. Nothing inside gives Amarillo any hint as to what it may be next.
Social media has been asking the question, and the answers have been all over the place. It's nice to have a conversation about something new coming to the area. On the post that I saw from a group page in Amarillo, Ask Amarillo Anything, there are a few answers that make sense.
A manager of the nearby McDonald's did what a lot of people would like to do: they asked the workers:
I manage the McDonald’s right there. When we asked the guys working on it they told us it was Adam & Eve adult store.
Hopefully that’s not the case being so close to the school!
What the Records Say
The Most Likely New Business
So it does look like the best guess is that it's going to be an Adam & Eve's. A co-worker even mentioned when this was brought up that he was at one of their stores a few years back and was told Amarillo would be getting one. It just seems it took some time.
What makes this an interesting location is that it is surrounded by young children and adults in either direction down Wolfin. There is a daycare in one direction and Tascosa High School in the other. So, is this the best place for an Adam and Eve if that is what moves in?
We will keep an eye on this location to see if what we were told is correct.
