There are some great programs in the Amarillo area when you are pregnant. A very important thing is making sure you eat properly for your baby to start healthy and strong. One program that helps with that is WIC (Women, Infants, and Children).

They look to see if you qualify for the program. When I was pregnant more than twenty years ago, I did. I was waiting tables and had no insurance. That is when I first found out about WIC. I was on it for a bit. Over the years, it has improved a lot.

Now there is a credit card to purchase your items like milk, fruits and veggies, cheese, cereal, formula, and the like. Back in my day, yes, I had to say it, there were individual paper cards you had to keep up with, such a pain.

Why WIC Shopping Is So Frustrating

One thing that doesn't look like it has changed is the process at the store. Some stores try to make it easy by having a sticker on the shelf that says "WIC Approved." There is an app that you can use to scan a product and it will tell you whether it is approved or not. That still doesn't make it simple.

Any moms on WIC? I’m having such a hard time going to the stores, finding stuff, really, I can only find cheese and milk that are approved. I have the app, so I'm scanning every possible item on the list, but again, it's like nothing is approved.  -Anonymous
