Amarillo Wind. Would You Trade It For Another Annoyance?
There's nothing I love more than a good hypothetical. You know, one of those things where someone says, "what if XYZ turned into ABC and we got EFG?" kind of things.
Well as I was doing my daily troll of Reddit, I saw one that really made me stop and think. Now, it's a TRUE hypothetical because it's not anything we can change or create, but I thought it was an interesting hypothetical question.
I mean, it's a pretty good hypothetical right? Amarillo has been tagged as THE windiest city in America based on its average wind speed, and it's not even close. Sometimes we like the wind, sometimes we don't. Now SOME wind is good, but those days where it's blowing at like 25-30 mph as stated in the hypothetical are days we could probably do without right?
Users started to comment on the post and this one is pretty spot on.
I mean, the smell is always there it seems, but when that wind kicks up it gets even worse. If the smell were to go away before the wind, would it be more tolerable? Maybe to a certain extent, but the wind is still an annoyance at this point.
Ok, I like the pollution comment here. Because of the wind, it does have a tendency to blow all that nasty stuff out of the city. We have some very clean air, even if the sky looks brown and dusty at times. It's relatively clean air here. The second part of the comment that mentions a fan cooling us off on a hot day?
Yes...this right here. The wind on a hot day does NOT do anything to cool it down. If anything, it feels like it makes it hotter because the wind that's blowing is hot air. It really does feel like it makes it worse.
It seems most people are actually ok with the wind in Amarillo because no one actually mentioned a characteristic they'd take on to get rid of the wind. Yes, the wind can suck, but maybe it's better than what we would end up replacing it with.
