Our Amarillo menus are more than just meat and potatoes. We can dabble in a little bit of everything. Don't worry, though, if a good juicy steak is what you are in the mood for, of course, we can satisfy that need too. This is Texas, after all.
1. The 72-Ounce Steak at The Big Texan Steak Ranch
7701 I-40 East
A true Route 66 legend. If you are going to live, live right with this 72 ouncer. I mean, why not? Except for maybe the way you are going to feel afterwards, but whether you attempt the full 72-ounce challenge or just order a more manageable ribeye, this is a rite of passage.
2. Chopped Brisket Sandwich at Tyler’s Barbecue
3301 Olsen Blvd
Smoked to perfection, juicy, and served with scratch-made sides — this sandwich might ruin you for all others. Make sure you go on a day that they are serving their green chili mac and cheese. That is a win-win right there.
3. The Red Curry at Bangkok - Tokyo
2413 S Western
Yes, Amarilo has standout Thai. A lot of great places come to mind. Bangkok-Tokyo is a cozy spot that delivers big flavor with its rich red curry and jasmine rice. We have many great places for Thai, but I always find myself back at Bangkok - Tokyo.
4. Aaron's Habenero Burger at Golden Light
1010 Southwest 6th Ave or 6014 S Western
Spicy, messy, and unforgettable. It's hard to choose between the onion rings or hand-cut fries, so get them both. You will thank me later.
5. Chicken-Fried Steak at Youngblood’s Café
620 SW 16th
This no-frills diner serves up one of the best chicken-fried steaks in the state. Crispy crust, peppery gravy, fluffy mashed potatoes. You even get a complimentary dessert while supplies last. When you get the chicken fried steak, make sure you opt for the green chile gravy. You will thank me.
6. Carne Guisada Dinner at La Frontera
1401 S Arthur Street
A hidden gem with legit, flavorful carne guisada. Grab some corn tortillas to finish the plate. Make sure you ask for it hot and spicy.
7. Pancakes at Ye Olde Pancake Station
2800 Virginia Circle
This Amarillo institution has been slinging golden, buttery pancakes since 1981. Get them with a side of bacon and thank us later. Breakfast is served, and it is delicious. If you are a weird one like me, who doesn't eat breakfast, don't worry, you can get a burger anytime, too.
8. Donuts from Rise 'N Shine Donuts
Multiple locations
Soft, fluffy, and often sold out by mid-morning. Get there early. Rise and shine and get out the door for those perfect donuts. The maple bars and apple fritters are legendary.
9. Steak Burrito at Sharky’s Burrito Company
1612 S Georgia St
This Amarillo original lets you build your own burrito, nachos, or salad. You can't go wrong with a good ol' steak burrito. This is Texas, and steak rules. Make sure you add jalapenos for a bit of spice.
10. Five Cheese Burger at Beef O' Brady's
7306 SW 34th
Family-run and full of flavor. The Five Cheese Burger is for the ultimate cheese lover. It even comes with a plank of fried cheese on top.
11. Green Striped Piggy at 575° Pizzeria
2803 Civic Circle and 7710 Hillside
Wood-fired pizza with green chilies, bacon, goat, and feta cheese. The mozzarella is the perfect finishing touch.
12. Purple Haze at Palace Coffee Company
2646 Wolflin, 7304 SW 34th and 420 15th St in Canyon
Palace Coffee has three locations to keep you caffeinated. This is the perfect time to try the Purple Haze, which is a cold brew latte flavored with lavender and acai syrups.
13. Girasol Brunch Burger at Girasol Cafe & Bakery
3201 S Coulter St
Unexpected upscale flavor in a cozy spot. Whether you are looking for the perfect breakfast, lunch, or brunch spot, don't sleep on Girasol Cafe & Bakery. Their brunch burger is served on a house-made Japanese Aloha bun. There is bacon jam, cream cheese, onion strips, and topped with a fried egg.
14. Lobster Mac at The Drunken Oyster
7606 SW 45th Ave
Cajun fusion done right. The lobster mac is that perfect blend of Cajun spices with smoked Gouda and generous amounts of lobster meat. Their Drunken Fondue is also a savory start to any meal — or make it the meal.
15. Cinnamon Rolls at Yolo's
3221 S Western
I mean, you are not living right until you try a freshly made cinnamon roll from Yolos. If you have even a bigger appetite, grab a Palo Durro breakfast burrito or stick around for lunch and grab a Mac Attack, mac and cheese topped with bacon, green chili, jalapeños, and even fried chicken if you want.
Amarillo luckily has even more great places that you have to try. If you don't see your favorite here, don't worry. Keep an eye out for part two. It is sure to be coming.
