Amarillo’s Sudden Donut Departure Leaves Lone Location
It seems like the donut culture has certainly changed around Amarillo. It used to be only a certain place to get those sweet breakfast treats. At least there was only one place I could recall from my youth.
Then as the years have passed Amarillo has grown with all types of donuts. So many different places. One of the places I remember from my youth before I moved to the Amarillo and Canyon area was Dunkin Donuts. Then when I moved here they really weren't a thing.
I believe we had one at one point. Then we didn't. Then they came back to Amarillo. That is at least what my fuzzy memory tells me. All I know is that at one point recently we had two locations here in Amarillo. One on Soncy and one on Western.
Well after a visit from the owner recently we are down to just one. According to a social media post from a former employee of Dunkin' on Soncy, the owner showed up at that location, closed it immediately, and laid everyone off.
That is the worst. No warning and now no job. There is still another location on Western. Of course, with the news I did drive by the one on Western just to make sure they were still open. They were business as usual even though the staff seemed a little uneasy. That tends to happen when you are not sure what is going to happen.
I had a friend who went into panic mode. She was afraid both locations would be closed so she made a run to the location on Western, just in case. She panic bought.
If you look on Google Maps they have this location set at temporarily closed. I think that this is not temporary. Oh, but we shall see.
So our selection for donuts in Amarillo has decreased by one. Still, we have a lot more places than back in the day. Just know if Dunkin Donuts is what you want there is only one location in town now.
