Canyon, Texas Students Get Even More Days Off With Recent Announcement

We always joke that Canyon and Amarillo students have it much easier than we ever did. I know we had to walk up hills both ways in the snow to get to school and all of that. It does seem though that kids get more days off than we ever did.

I mean can we just admit that the whole process of snow days is much easier now? The parents get a text or email letting them know that school is closed. Nope, not us, that technology was not around. We couldn't get on social media either.

We had to get up bright and early and turn on our TVs to watch and see if our school was included in the scroll at the bottom of the screen. We could do that or turn on the radio to hear if our school was mentioned in between songs during a break. Now the news is just instant.

I could probably count on one hand how many snow days we had. If we had a snow day we made it up. One year, in Canyon, we even were supposed to make up one snow day on a Saturday. That doesn't happen now.

Some schools apparently don't even have to make up snow days. I am not bitter about it. Good for them. It seems in a school year with already scheduled days off for school holidays, teacher in-service, and make-up snow days the snow days don't have to be made up.

Canyon Independent School District Gets More Days Off

There have been a few snow days that the kids got to enjoy during winter. Now here we are in spring and it's time for the students to pay those days back. The snow days in the calendar this year are around the Easter holiday.

According to a recent post, those days are still for the students. So they got the original snow day and now they don't have to make it up at all. I am sure they are thrilled.

So enjoy the extra long Easter weekend in Canyon. It's only a short month until the summer break is here.
