[CHECK THIS OUT] Take a Trip Back With This Nostalgic Amarillo Song
We love our nostalgia here in Amarillo. It might be a smell that brings us back to the easier days. It could be a movie that you remember seeing when you were younger. Heck, it could even be a song. That song can get you singing along just like you did when you were younger.
Recently a lot of us in Amarillo were brought back with a song. I saw a social media post talking about this remake of Rock Me Amadeus. You remember the song in the eighties by Falco, right? If not, you are welcome.
If you remember back in the eighties parody songs were big. Weird Al made a career out of turning famous songs into something of his own. He was good at it.
So a lot of people tried their hand at it. A friend of mine who was in radio when I was younger did a parody of Funky Old Medina by Tone Loc. His version was Funky Old Purina. What I wouldn't give to have a copy of that. RIP Eric Stevens. I can still sing a lot of those lyrics.
That was not the only parody that radio people made in the day. Going back to Rock Me Amadeus, an Amarillo radio station that is not around anymore, not on the same frequency or same call letters as our very own 969 Kiss FM. Back in the eighties and nineties, there was 108 Kiss FM and they did their own parody mentioning things about our area.
The song was called "Rock Me Amarillo." They made it and they played it. A lot. I remember it like it was yesterday.
This song was a thing over thirty years ago and it's great to hear all of the local landmarks being mentioned. Oh, how Amarillo has changed but still stays the same.
