Amarillo’s Most Unlikely Theft: A Giant Purple Chair From Coconutz
We don’t like to hear stories about things being stolen in Amarillo. When it happens, and it does, we like to band together to recover the missing item and help make things right. Recently, a local business posted something that has us scratching our heads.

Because honestly… how do you even steal something this big? It's like walking off with a life-sized Barney costume. You remember Barney, don't you? He is big and purple, and so is this missing item.
How Do You Even Steal a Chair This Big?
The folks at Coconutz on Olsen say someone made off with their giant, purple Crown Royal chair. You know the one—it’s basically a throne fit for royalty, just a little more happy hour than Buckingham Palace.
The Crown Royal Throne Goes Missing
Now, we’re not saying Amarillo has criminal masterminds walking around, but you’d think sneaking out with a giant purple chair might draw a little attention. Did they roll it out the front door like it was just another barstool? Did they back up a truck? Or maybe, just maybe, someone just sat in it and dared their friends to “carry me home.” You know there had to be alcohol involved in the decision-making process. You just know it.
Somewhere out there, this chair is sitting in a living room or a man cave. Sure, it makes for one heck of a conversation starter—but is “I swiped a giant purple chair from Coconutz” really the story you want to be telling?
Bar’s Plea: Just Bring It Back
Barret Carter from Coconutz told us:
Look, we just want the chair back—no questions asked. If you’ve got it in your living room right now, please return it before your friends spill queso on it. We might even come up with a little reward for whoever helps bring our purple throne home.
Community Asked to Keep Watch
Amarillo, let’s keep our eyes peeled. If you happen to see a suspiciously royal-looking chair hanging out where it doesn’t belong, maybe we can help bring it back to its rightful home.
Update
Since this story was published, apparently, the chair had been returned. It seems someone felt a little guilty about doing something so stupid as stealing. It was just brought and left on the patio, according to Barret Carter:
Someone put it on the patio. When I came in a 3 pm to work happy hour. Thank you guys for keeping an eye out.
The chair has been returned to Coconutz and can be a part of your fun night out again. Go and see it and get your photos with the infamous Amarillo stolen chair.
