With the pending opening of Oishii Sushi off of Georgia St in the next couple of weeks, I thought it would be a good idea to take a look at where you can get the best sushi in Amarillo, TX.

We don't know what Oishii is going to offer in terms of different choices of rolls, how good the sushi itself is, and what type of restaurant it's going to be, but we have plenty of options to choose from in the city.

When I was looking through the ratings of the sushi places in Amarillo, I focused mainly on the overall quality of the food and the price. No matter how you roll it up, sushi can get expensive in a hurry, so price was a big thing for me in looking, but I wanted to make sure we avoided the old adage of, "you get what you pay for".

So without further adieu, here are a few of the best places to grab some sushi in town.

LEMONGRASS SUSHI & WOK

Found in Western Crossing, Lemongrass offers up a nice little menu of different types of sushi to choose from. They offer everything from baked, fried, sashimi, fresh, and sushi rolls, so there's a little something for every palate.

If sushi isn't your thing, they've got a nice menu of Pho and wok-made dishes. Their food was reviewed a 4 out of 5 and the price was rated the same.

KABUKI ROMANZA JAPANESE STEAKHOUSE & SUSHI BAR

I've personally been to Kabuki and I can tell you right out the gate that the atmosphere is phenomenal inside. That alone is worth the experience. Kabuki offers a very extensive sushi menu and offers options to get just your favorite, or you can order from one of their sashimi or sushi sets they offer to get a taste of several pieces.

Kabuki offers up the traditional Japanese fare as well where they cook the food right in front of you if you're not a sushi fan. The food checks in with a 4 out of 5 rating, but the price hurts it here a bit with a score of 3.5 out of 5.

YOUNG SUSHI "ROCKS"

This one is a very interesting case. When you look at the ratings it gets, you wouldn't think it's a top place to get sushi here in Amarillo. Like Kabuki, it scored 4 out of 5 for the food, but 3.5 out of 5 for the price.

One thing sets it apart from the others though. It had been voted "The Best of Amarillo: Sushi" for SEVEN straight years until getting knocked off by someone further down on the list here, so they must be doing something right. Young Sushi "Rocks" have a VERY extensive menu of sushi, possibly the biggest in the city to choose from, and it doesn't stop there. Their non-sushi menu is also large, offering up something for literally everyone.

RAIN PREMIER SUSHI BAR & LOUNGE

Our last two on the list both check in with ratings of 4.5 out of 5 for both food quality AND price, so according to Yelp, these are the best you'll find in the city. Rain is the first of the two, and their sushi menu rivals that of Young Sushi Rocks. I don't think there's one type of sushi NOT on the menu, so if you've heard of it, they've probably got it.

Outside of sushi, they have both a lunch and dinner menu that is loaded with options that aren't in the sushi realm, and again, you'd be hard-pressed to find something you've heard of NOT on the menu. I can see how it was rated so high.

BANGKOK TOKYO

Here's the restaurant that knocked off Young Sushi Rocks from their 7-year run of Best Sushi of Amarillo. Bangkok Tokyo not only got it in the sushi category but in the Best Asian Food category as well. They don't come more well-rounded than Bangkok Tokyo.

They offer up the most extensive menu across the board of anyone on this list, and they price it so well that you can gorge yourself on as much as your stomach can handle. From every sushi roll imaginable to all the Asian dishes you can wrap your head around, Bangkok Tokyo reigns supreme on our list.
