I get it tipping has gotten crazy in Amarillo and everywhere else. It seems everyone wants to get in on the tipping culture. I tip most of the time. I waited tables for years so I get it. If there is a service provided I one hundred percent agree that tipping is necessary. Especially when the pay is so crazy low.

A server at most restaurants makes about $2.13 an hour give or take. That is way below minimum wage. That is where tips are supposed to help bring that pay rate up. You can argue that the restaurant should pay a liveable wage and I get that. That is not going to happen. So if you go out to eat and expect great service you should also know that tipping is part of that.

The same thing goes for orders delivered. If you don't want to leave your house and pick up food you need to tip. Most delivery services pay about two dollars a delivery. The tip once again hopefully brings it up to a liveable wage. Plus don't forget we are using our own car and our own gas. So if you don't want to leave, go to the restaurant to pick up your food, wait on your food, deal with wrong orders, and drive home then please respect us enough to tip.

It would be nice if it was a great tip but sometimes I get to the point that hey any tip is better than a no tip. Not by much. As a person who offers a service, we do have ways sometimes to deal with those non-tippers.

If you deliver by offer you know right away if someone tips or not. Your offer will not be much more than two dollars if there is a no-tip. You can just decline the offer.  Declining does hurt the dasher, though, since we have to have a certain acceptance rate to get the better perks. So sometimes we have to pick up your garbage order.

If you deliver by time there is no way to know if there is a tip. Sometimes since DoorDash is paying you they throw in more of the non-tippers to the ones delivering this way. You don't find out the tip until after you drop off the food and complete the delivery. So I decided to keep a note in my phone. I write down the address to anyone who doesn't tip.

That way I have a record of who I know won't tip. This is a job that I want to be paid for after all. I use my car. I use my gas. So I should accept a decent wage. I found a way to work around the non-tippers. I can accept the order so it doesn't hurt my acceptance rate and then I can just look up the address and if it's on my list I can just unassign it. That then starts the process over for the customer.

So if your food is taking longer than expected to get to you then odds are you can look at your tip that you offered. You can tip what you want but if the trip is not worth it for us delivery people we can and will find a way around taking your order.
