Dasher Diary – An Attempt to Hit New Amarillo Goals
One of the things that DoorDash does for their delivery drivers is to offer a sort of rewards program. The former program was Top Dasher. You had to hit certain criteria to have access to the good stuff.
The former Top Dasher program wasn't really all that hard to hit and maintain. You had to have over two hundred lifetime deliveries. Which was a one-time hit it and you are good. Other than that you had to deliver at least one hundred deliveries a month. You had to accept at least seventy percent of those deliveries. You also had to have a good rating from the customers.
All obtainable. I started delivering in September of last year and hit Top Dasher for the first time in October. I never lost it after that. You had to have all of your numbers achieved by the last day of the month. The payout was you received better orders, so they say. The important thing was you could get on the app and deliver whenever you wanted.
You were not limited to just when they were busy. You also didn't have to schedule six days out. That was my main motivation. My schedule changes all of the time and I benefitted by being able to Dash whenever I wanted.
Then a few weeks ago they changed it all. They moved from the Top Dasher program to Dasher Tier levels. Now you had to be Silver, Gold, or Platinum. Only at the Platinum level could you Dash whenever you wanted. Oh, did I mention they made that level pretty hard to hit?
What used to be needing a seventy or above to deliver whenever you wanted was now changed to eighty percent. Now that is not the criteria in any city. That is the criteria in Amarillo. I think it's because they have too many people signed up to DoorDash and that is their way to weed out some of the people. Make it harder to get the perks.
So since this rolled out in Amarillo I have had to schedule six days out. I have issues getting on to Dash by time, where I get paid hourly plus tips. I usually make better money that way and accept more offers then delivering by offer, which is where you only make two dollars per delivery plus tips. Sometimes it is good sometimes it is not.
Since I am going to be out of town for several days this week I won't be able to schedule. I can't schedule to Dash for Amarillo if I am in Dallas. So when I get back in town my ability to deliver at all will be cut down.
So I am on the quest to get all of my requirements filled before I leave town. This will be very tough but it is the goal. The tough one will be getting my acceptance rate up to eighty percent. See they do it on a rolling scale.
Out of the last one hundred deliveries if you accept one and at that point one hundred deliveries ago you declined it, that is the only way your rate goes up. If you decline when previously you accepted it then your rating goes down. You really don't have any idea when it is going to go up or down.
Over the weekend I started at a seventy-two percent acceptance rate. Then I delivered nine and didn't budge at all. So I was still sitting at seventy-two. I finally started having some luck on Monday. When I finished up I am now at seventy-six. So I need four more before I drive out of Amarillo on Friday.
If I get it, great. That is what I need so that when I am back in town next week I can get back to making money. If not I will just try to do my best. Have I mentioned I hate this new rewards program?
