Dasher Diary: Some Amarillo Customers Have No Shame
Some days I just want to take my car and just go back to my home in Amarillo and try another day. We have all been there. Not every day can be perfect when you spend some of your time driving around and delivering food to hungry Amarillo customers.
I love meeting new people. For the most part everyone I run into is super nice. Then there are those that make me want to throw my hands up in the air and scream. It's not that they are not nice. They are always nice. It's when someone blatantly lies to me.
I had the delivery a couple of weeks ago and the customer told me in the app that he would tip me after I delivered the food. He did not. Did it make me happy? Of course not. I get some people don't tip. Just own it and don't lie. Don't make a point to put that in the notes to make us have some kind of hope. It just makes us angry that you would lie like that.
I didn't think I would have an order that topped that. Oh, but I did. Over the weekend I delivered to a hotel here in Amarillo. It was one of my last deliveries before I was going to take a short break.
I was going to Chilis to pick up food for someone at a hotel. I was bringing her alcohol too. So this required extra work. I have to scan the ID and verify that they are not drunk already. It's just a lot more steps.
Now, I will preface the fact that most times when I deliver to a hotel they tip nicely. A lot of them are either stuck at the hotel or just don't want to go out and drive around a town they don't know. So they are very grateful and nice.
I got the food and alcohol drink and headed to the hotel. I knocked on her door. I had to scan her ID. She came to the door with her license in hand. That is nice because at least she was ready.
I went through the process and made small talk. Everything went through and I told her to have a great night. As I was leaving she told me that she tipped me through the app. I wouldn't have even thought anything about it. I don't see tips until after I confirm the order.
I don't confirm until I get back to my car. It's a safety thing for me. If something happens to me on my way to the car DoorDash can track me because I am still in the dash. Plus since I get paid from the time I pick up until I confirm the order I do make a little bit more. That is important if someone doesn't tip.
I decided it was weird she said that. She didn't have to. So I just assumed at that point she didn't tip. Yeah, I know being all negative. That is usually how it works. So I decide to take a moment and use the restroom at the hotel before I go back to my car.
When I get to my car and confirm, I see it. Yes, she had the nerve to lie right to my face. There was no tip. Why even bring it up? Why lie? I will never see her again. She was from Florida, and the odds of me ever having to dash to her again were low. Just don't say anything. Don't lie.
