Dasher Diary – The Joy of Cancelled Orders in Amarillo
This weekend I got to experience a few firsts when it comes to food delivery. I got to enjoy my first night of a nice peak pay. DoorDash was paying an extra $4.50 on each delivery you made that night. That was nice.
The money was pretty nice. That was my first day to make over one hundred dollars. I do this a few hours a day. So to make that much in such a short time was just beautiful.
Then I got to experience the joy of a canceled order. I went to Fun Noodle Bar and picked up an order. I was supposed to make about eleven dollars on the delivery. The text then came in. It said the order was canceled and that I would be receiving the full pay. Okay, score.
The text then went on to say I should start receiving new orders. Which I did. Right away. Oh, and remember I already picked up the food. So I had dinner too. That was nice.
The second canceled order was on an alcohol delivery. I picked up the order and drove to the drop-off location. I couldn't find the apartment. It was hidden. The owner knew that. So he was explaining the location. I told him I needed him to meet me at the door.
The problem was he was not home. He did not place this order. A friend ordered it for his birthday. Since he wasn't home I couldn't just leave it. You can't do that without scanning his ID. He knew it. The person who ordered didn't understand that.
I had to call DoorDash. They called the lady who ordered and they directed me to return it to the store. The pay on this one was about seventeen dollars. So I was afraid I would lose that chunk of change. DoorDash assured me I would receive the full pay and then another half pay for returning it.
I had to have DoorDash call me when I arrived at the liquor store. I tried to return it and they said they couldn't accept the return. So now what? It's a free bottle of liquor and all I wanted was the pay. So they talked to DoorDash and it was handled. It was a hassle but I ended up making about twenty-five dollars off the delivery and return.
So I will take it. This weekend was full of firsts and I am so happy that they were in my favor. That does not always happen.
