Dasher Diary: The Long Road to Top-Dasher in Amarillo

I have learned one thing when it comes to trying my hand at working a side hustle in Amarillo. Some delivery apps pay too much attention to some things. Some don't. What I mean is the acceptance rate.

DoorDash cares about that and Uber Eats not so much. So if I don't accept a delivery request for whatever reason. I mean sometimes the drop-off point is too far away and makes it not worth it. Sometimes the tip is certainly not worth the trip. There are other reasons too why you might decline.

Uber Eats will tell you your acceptance rate is not as good as others, but that is it. DoorDash will actually ding you. That low acceptance rate can mess up your month. From what I have gathered if you qualify for top-dasher at the end of the month you get rewarded from DoorDash.

Top Dashers can basically pick their schedule and work whenever they want for the next month. If you are not at Top Dasher status then you have to schedule your working time six days in advance. That can really cause a headache. You have to remember after three in the afternoon to schedule for six days out. You have to basically know what you are doing that next week.

In order to be a top dasher you have to have over seventy percent acceptance rate by the end of the month. You also have to have a customer rating of over 4.5. So towards the end of September, I started paying attention.

I had a five-customer rating so that was not bad. I didn't have to worry about that. I kept my acceptance rate hovering around seventy so I just had to keep it there. I kept track. I was going to be top dasher and that would make my October easier.

Until I realized something I didn't know during all of this. See I am new to DoorDash so I didn't know the last two qualifications. You have to have over two hundred lifetime deliveries and you have to have delivered at least one hundred in the current month. I definitely had the one hundred deliveries in September. No problem.

What ended up getting me was my lifetime deliveries. I first started DoorDashing at the end of August. So by the end of September, I had only been delivering for a little bit over a month. My lifetime deliveries? I was sitting at around one hundred and eighty. I was about twenty short and did not have enough time to do anything about it.

So I am stuck having to schedule for another month. Now I know all the rules and I will work on getting top dasher for November. I will get this done. I am ready to be able to dash whenever I want and not on their schedule.
