You're fast asleep, deep in that REM cycle, then all of a sudden you're jarred awake by a loud knock at the door. It sounds like the cops are there. You jump up and run to look outside, only to find no one is there.

That's been happening at a more often rate these days in certain Amarillo neighborhoods, and it's starting to really upset residents. Here's the worst of it. It seems to be happening more around 1-2 am when you're REALLY asleep, not just before or after you go to bed.

The neighborhood it's being reported in is the Avondale/Plains/Western area. Multiple reports within the neighborhood say they're hearing loud knocks on their doors late at night and it's becoming a bit unsettling.

No one was at the door of the person who initially mentioned it and they did have video from a doorbell camera but they have video only of the person coming to the door. It stopped once they reached the door and they couldn't see if they took off running or hung around for a bit.

Some people have mentioned this has happened to them as well, just not as late at night. Some say they've had panhandlers come to their door, others have said it was people that appeared a bit mentally unstable or not knowing exactly where they are.

In this day and age, it's tough because some people just need help, while others are playing games. We want to be able to help those people in need, but with crime being what it is these days, it's tough to know who really needs help and who's there to hurt you.
