Dasher Diary: Why DoorDash Drivers in Amarillo Are Talking About Selfie Checks
When you choose to deliver food around Amarillo, you have a couple of different apps and services you can sign up for. They both have their advantages and disadvantages. I have signed up for both Uber Eats and DoorDash. There may be others, but those are the two I have.
Choosing Between DoorDash and Uber Eats in Amarillo
I like DoorDash better because before I accept an order, I know where the drop-off location is. I don't know more than a general location with Uber Eats. That is my major complaint with them. Uber Eats tends to have customers who tip better; there are just more deliveries through DoorDash in Amarillo.
I have both on my phone, but I tend to use DoorDash more. I was talking with a coworker recently when he told me that sometimes the driver that he sees on DoorDash is not the one who shows up to drop off the food. That can be two different reasons. It could be a husband and wife team where one drives and one drops off.
Why Some Drivers Prefer DoorDash
Or it could be someone using an account that is not theirs. I told him that Uber Eats is much better about making us verify, and quite often, we have to snap a selfie of us at the moment, and they verify it is us.

DoorDash does not really do that, or that often. Oh, but sure enough, the very next day, DoorDash wouldn't let me sign on. They wanted me to verify my account. Were they listening? Probably. Did I care that I had to verify? No. I just took my selfies and went on.
DoorDash’s New Selfie Verification Process
They first gave me a message to let me know I could not sign on. I needed to go through the process. Where Uber Eats just makes me take one single selfie, DoorDash wanted more.
I had to take a full-on front face photo. Then I had to look to the left and snap a photo and then turn to the right and do the same thing. After that, they verified me and let me go on. Though by the time I did all of that, I was no longer allowed to sign up to deliver by time, all of the slots were filled, so that was frustrating.
The verification process was done a few days ago. Let's see how long before they make me go through that again. Maybe they will hear me talking about this article and again make me snap selfies of myself again. I mean, our phones are always listening, right?
