Amarillo, Texas Closed BBQ Restaurant Set to Make a Comeback This Week
Who is ready for an Amarillo favorite to get back to serving great BBQ? I know that it has been a long few months since Doug's Bar-B-Que on Georgia Street closed. Right before Christmas issues came up with the building.
Since then the Google listing has blared the words 'permanently closed" that is all about to change, and soon. The new owner took to social media recently to let us know the opening date is this week.
Not only was that the information passed along. He also wanted Amarillo to know his family heritage in the area so that we knew he came from a long line of BBQ expertise. With restaurants in the area like Henks, Dougs, and Crazy Larry's serving some of the greatest BBQ in the area it is not a surprise that he knows what he is doing.
According to JD Ball on his social media:
If no one has figured me out yet, I am the son of Gunnery Sergeant Lyle E Henk I am the grandson of JD Ball my mother‘s name was Dotti. My sister, Jennifer McDowell, and my brother-in-law Larry McDowell own Crazy Larry’s Barbecue my dad and my mother owned Henk's Barbecue on Grand and now I’m reopening my sister‘s Barbecue Dougs on Georgia with my daughter Dotti an attempt to have a fourth generation at this place our first-day opening will be Wednesday 26 February. Please come and see us. You won’t be disappointed. Have a blessed day.
So as of Wednesday, we can see the permanently closed change to open again. We will again see cars parked around the building enjoying some great BBQ. Luckily another great one is coming back.
