Recent Amarillo Accident: Time to Review Your Emergency Contacts
This is one of those things that happen in Amarillo that you can't predict. It seems these happen all of the time, accidents. More specifically, car accidents. For the first time in my life, I was a passenger in a car accident over the weekend. Now what happened after the accident left me in awe of technology.
Saturday night I was heading back into town from Lubbock on my way to my house. We were at I27 and Washington when all I remember is a huge crash and our car spinning. When the car stopped and we made sure we were ok in the car I started looking for my phone, or actually phones. They went flying.
The driver was already calling 911 when my watch started going crazy. It warned me about the crash and that it was calling 911 itself. I can't turn it off on my watch and still looking for both of my phones. I talk to 911 through my watch but I want to get off the call because we were already on the line with them with the driver. I sat through the watch giving our coordinates of where the crash happened. Technology is so cool.
Technology Can Be a Little Scary Too After a Car Accident
That is when once the phones were located I started to receive phone calls. First, it was my daughter in Dallas. She asked if I was ok. I was totally confused. How did she know I was in a car crash? She said she got a text letting her know I was in an accident and that I called emergency. Weird.
Then my mom beeped in. She received the same notification. My mom lives in Phoenix. This was weird. I don't remember anything about setting something like this up. Apparently, I did. The next thing I received was a text from my sister in Oregon. She was too checking in on me as she got the same message.
Apple Notifies People in an Emergency, if You Set it Up
Apparently, iPhones have this feature. I didn't know that I set it up at some point, but I did. You can read more about it HERE. I had it set up to notify my daughter, mom, and sister. I am glad that I did. I live alone here in Amarillo so it's nice that someone knows if something major like a car accident happens.
All of my emergency contacts received messages about the crash and updates when I left to go anywhere else, in case I went to the hospital they would know. I would get map locations too.
My daughter even shared my location with friends, because she was worried and they drove by to give her peace of mind. They did not stop, because I didn't know them, but she would know that I was fine.
If this is not something you have set up on your phone, you should. If you don't know you should check so you are not confused if something happens and the phone starts notifying. It's really a cool feature now that I know it is a thing.
