Hope Road Bridge Construction In Amarillo Starts Today
It has to be one of the most overused terms in Amarillo. "New road construction is getting underway". At this point, it's become expected that there will forever be some kind of project being worked on that will affect travel in the city.
Well, it's about that time again to where we need to utter those six little words, and this one will cause a few issues. At minimum, it's going to create some areas of backup during the rush hours.

The bridge at Hope Road on I-40 is nearing the end of its service life, so in order to keep it safe for everyone, it needs some upgrades. Yes, that means we've got a relatively major project that is getting started.
Construction and renovations on the bridge begin today, so you can expect there's going to be a little confusion along with traffic around it. The upgrades being made include increasing vertical clearance for the I-40 freight corridor, and creating/improving pedestrian and bicyclist accommodations along Hope Road.
In order to complete the project, we can naturally anticipate there will be lane and ramp closures as they work through the project. Here are the ones TXDOT is anticipating:
-I-40 WB frontage road from Helium Rd. to BI-40
-WB BI40 to the I-40 frontage road exit ramp
-I-40 WB entrance ramp from Hope Road
-I-40 EB exit ramp 62A to Hope Road
-I-40 EB entrance ramp from Arnot Road
-I-40 south frontage road from EB exit ramp 62A to the Hope Road intersection
-EB exit ramp 62B for Amarillo Blvd
The project is supposed to be completed in early 2025, so hopefully not TOO long for these closures. It's also important to keep in mind these closures will happen intermittently as they work on the project, not all at once.
