Arrest Made In Fatal Amarillo Shooting Over Labor Day Weekend
As we come off the heels of Labor Day weekend in Amarillo, marking the end of summer and the start of football, it's sad that we can't just fully enjoy it. Unfortunately, that's what happened this weekend.
Many people started their weekend off by hitting up various bars across Amarillo, and some simply didn't want the night to come to an end.
A group of people decided that once the bar shut its doors, they'd create an after-party and invited others over to their house.
HOW IT STARTED
Many attended the after-party on Avondale, and unfortunately, some of those guests were uninvited guests who showed up via word of mouth.
It wasn't until residents of the house and some of their friends started asking those who weren't invited to head on out. A fight broke out and as it worked its way into the street, shots began to rang out.
Felita Bailey ended up losing her life, all because of an after-party that was SUPPOSED to be civil and fun. Social media posts started going up with family members begging for any info on what happened and who did it.
AN ARREST MADE
That part of the mystery thankfully came to an end when Amarillo Police arrested 22-year-old Dylan Zane Black and charged him with murder.
As of right now, we don't know if there was a motive for the shooting. We aren't sure if the suspect was just upset about being asked to leave the party, or if he was intentionally aiming for someone.
Either way, a life was lost at 25 years old over something that shouldn't have been a big deal.
A CHECKERED PAST
This isn't the first time Black has found himself in trouble with the law.
Back in January of 2020, he was arrested and charged with burglary of building and evading arrest detention. He would ultimately end up being sentenced for those things, and it appears that sentence came with probation of some sort.
We only know this as in February of 2023, Black was Amarillo Crime Stoppers "Fugitive of the Week" in relation to violating probation on that burglary charge he was sentenced on.
HOW YOU CAN HELP
Currently, police are looking for any kind of video footage of the event. They're hoping that some doorbell cameras may have caught what happened to help them understand and solve the case. If you have anything from the shooting, police are asking you to upload it here.
Meanwhile, an unexpected death ALWAYS places a financial burden on the family. A GoFundMe has been set up for Felita and her family and you can donate to it here if you wish.
