Amarillo isn't a city that gets a lot of recognition for top-tier athletes coming out of high school and going on to do big things. We celebrate those that do however make it in the big time, and we follow them intently.

Right now, we've currently got two athletes who have gone on to some very big places and are doing big things as we speak, but one of them is about to change the uniform they're wearing, and the other may be as well.

HESTON KJERSTAD

I'll start with the player who ISN'T changing uniforms...yet. Why do I say yet? The Randall High School alum is currently crushing the competition in Norfolk. He's playing with the Norfolk Tides at the moment, the AAA affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, one step away from cracking the big league roster for the second time.

He didn't break camp at Spring Training with the big club, but what he's doing in Norfolk is going to force the hand of someone in Baltimore to bring him up.

Kjerstad is currently mashing the ball. Just 11 games into the season, Kjerstad's batting average is .413, he's got 6 home runs already, and an astounding 25 RBIs. He also had a career game in the 5th game of the season where he went 5 for 7 with 2 home runs and 10, yes 10 RBI in the game.

BRENDAN HAUSEN

Hausen was an absolute stud at Amarillo High School on the court. He wowed us with his penchant for knocking down every big shot and carrying Amarillo High to different heights. Hausen was ranked the 136 overall prospect in the 2022 class and had offers rolling in from major Division I schools, something we don't see a lot of in Amarillo.

He had standing offers from Arizona State, Oregon, Oklahoma, Texas Tech, and Villanova. Hausen decided to attend Villanova, which was a smart pick considering their pedigree and history of success.

Well, after averaging 6.2 points and just under 2 rebounds per game in his sophomore season at Nova, Hausen has decided it's time for a change of scenery. He has entered the transfer portal and will be wearing a different school uniform for his junior season. All sports fans in Amarillo will be watching closely to see where Hausen ends up landing.
