How You Can Help Amarillo Kids Through the Angel Tree
'Tis the Season in Amarillo. We are in the holiday season, and everyone is thinking about Thanksgiving and Christmas and trying to figure out what to buy for their family and friends. It's also the giving season, where Amarillo residents give back to the community.
Why the Angel Tree Matters in Amarillo
One way to give back to the community is through the Salvation Army's Angel Tree. It is a way to make sure those children in our community have a Christmas.
People fall on hard times, and it's not fair to those children who also dream of having an amazing Christmas.
Where to Find Angel Tree Locations in Amarillo
You can adopt an angel from the Salvation Army's Angel Tree now through December 13th. You can find the Angel Tree at Westgate Mall or at our local Walmarts, including Coulter, Georgia, and Gem Lake.

Steps to Adopting an Angel From the Angel Tree
- Go to an Angel Tree Location
- Pick one or more Angels off the tree
- Go shopping and purchase one or more items off the child's list
- Make sure they are new and unopened items
- You can also add age-appropriate items that are not on the list
- Do not wrap the gifts
- Return gifts to the location you adopted the Angel by the deadline
The deadline to return gifts for the Angel Tree is December 17.
What Happens if an Angel Is Not Returned
Keep in mind, if you pick an Angel off the Angel Tree, please shop for that angel. If you don't, then that child will go without this holiday season. Some people will go and adopt an angel and never return with gifts. This leaves a child without gifts, and it takes away the opportunity for another person to fulfill those Christmas wishes.
There has been a lot of negative conversation on social media about creators and influencers doing the bare minimum with Angel Tree adoptions. If you choose to adopt an angel, please commit fully so that a child is not left without gifts.

Ways to Give if You Cannot Adopt in Person
If you are unable to go and adopt an angel physically, you can always donate online at the Registry for Good program and still help out. Other ways you can give back to the Angel Tree include volunteering your time.
