The shopping scene in Amarillo has really changed over the past few years. Sure, there's a lot of the same stores that we've always had. We also have had some new ones move in. And then there's some stores that have changed things up.

Back in June, we found out that Amarillo was getting a new Spencer's location on Soncy. So we wondered what that meant for the store in Westgate Mall. It was a valid question.

Do we really need two locations so close together? I understand that the traffic in the mall is a good reason to have one in the mall. This had always been a store that kids would sneak off to and giggle at some of the items when their parents dropped them off to see a movie.

Now that the movie theater is coming back that foot traffic will increase for sure.  Since the second Spencer's location on Soncy opened, I did get this message a few times wondering about the fate of the one in Westgate Mall.

Hey, I've been meaning to ask you do we have two Spencer's locations now? Or did the one in the mall close? - Shane

Both Locations Will Stay, But What's Different?

The one in the mall is alive and well and according to a manager at the one on Soncy she wanted us to know that the mall location is still open and will remain so for the foreseeable future.

OK. cool that mystery is solved. So I wanted to see if there was a difference in the two locations. Do they have two so close together just to give Amarillo another option to go to Spencer's? Does one location have something that the other doesn't?

So I took a trip to both locations.

I stopped at the one on Soncy first. It was early enough in the morning and I forgot that our mall doesn't open until 11 am. So off to the new Soncy location I went. As I walked through the store I remembered all the stuff that they had that made us chuckle as a kid. Yes, they have the adult novelty stuff that I remembered.

They had all of the t-shirts we would all gravitate to as a kid. They always had the coolest ones.

The store had much more than that.

Now, I thought I found the difference in the stores. The back right corner of Spencer's. If you have been in that location you know what I am talking about. This was a lot more than adult novelty. Let's just say these were straight-up adult toys that I did not expect to find in a store on Soncy. Maybe at Fantasy but definitely not here.

I made a joke to an employee and she said it was definitely a bit on the spicy side. I should say so.

Then I headed to the mall. That one section had to be the difference. There is no way they have those in the middle of the mall in Amarillo, Texas. I found the difference in the stores. That had to be it.

No, I was wrong. The mall setup also included this section. Not as big of a section but it was there. That came as a surprise to me. So yes, we have two Spencer's in Amarillo about a mile away from each other. We do.

The difference that I saw was that there was definitely more space in the one on Soncy. So they are able to have a bit more items on display. More stuff than the one in the mall. Though, I will say the Spencer's in the mall has a talent for cramming a lot of stuff in that smaller store.

So you have two locations in Amarillo to get your novelty items now. You can get them spicy or not.

SNEAK PEEK: Urban Air Adventure Park's in Westgate Mall

Urban Air Adventure Place has been in the works since it was announced in January 2022. And FINALLY! It's set to open to the public on Saturday, April 22, 2023.

We were lucky enough to score a sneak peek of the impressive facility that will give children the chance to jump, fly, and jive to their heart's content.
