Right On Target: Amarillo Dart Tournament to Benefitting the VFW

It used to be something you'd do in the garage when your friends were over or something you'd do at the bar to pick up a hottie. However, darts are a fun sport that people enjoy playing competitively.

One of the biggest tournaments from here to Oklahoma, Colorado, and New Mexico to Dallas is happening in Amarillo this weekend.

It's the 7th Annual West Texas Shootout.

It's a weekend full of competitive darts. People have come from all over to Amarillo to compete in this weekend's tournament. Some that win this tournament will qualify to go onto Las Vegas.

According to Tony Allen with the West Texas Shootout,

We have 12 different tournaments. They're all different styles. It starts today and it changes. We have two tonight. After the qualifier, we have what's called 301 which is our shortest game. It's like a mixed man and a woman against a man and a woman. And then tonight we have a blind draw in which you just get a mystery partner. You could get the best guy in the United States or you can get the worst, but it's a lot of fun.

The tournament is taking place in the newly renovated hotel called The Cactus Cove Inn, it was formerly known as the Khiva Hotel. If you haven't been in a while, you have to go check it out. It's like an oasis in Amarillo.

If you're into darts, you can sign up to participate. Just go up to The Cactus Cove, they have a desk at the end of the main hall where you register. You can also check out the schedules scattered around the entire room.

Entry is $10, and proceeds benefit our local VFW.
