End of a Seven-Year Journey: Amarillo’s Favorite Giant Consignment Sale Is Closing for Good
There are times when you feel special, being let in on a little secret in Amarillo. The crazy thing is, this really wasn't a secret to a lot of people. It was to me, because I was not moving in the circles that needed to know.
A "Cool Club" for New Parents and Grandparents
Once I found out my granddaughter was on the way, that was when I got to be allowed into this cool club. I was about to become a Mimi. Everything focused on this little bundle of joy. Like a lot of new parents, my daughter was on the hunt for all the supplies that little bundle was going to need.
That is when we discovered the Just Between Friends sale (JBF) at the Amarillo Civic Center. It would happen a few times a year, and we would go every time. I mean, kids need a lot of stuff, and usually they outgrow the stuff before there is any damage, so why not, as a parent, sell the item?
That is what this sale was for. Parents are selling the stuff that their kids outgrew, and new parents are buying the stuff they need at a much nicer price. That is why we always made sure we stopped at the sale.
Seven Years of Adventures: From Pandemics to Sandstorms
Then I got a message from the sales owner, Carrie, about bringing the sale to an end. It was like someone knocked the air out of me. I loved seeing Carrie and her family every time we shopped.
A few days after she sent me the text, she made it official:
After serving the Amarillo community and much of the Texas panhandle for seven years and 21 events, I have made the hard decision to close JBF Amarillo. It has been an amazing ride and we have met thousands of wonderful families, both sellers and shoppers....many who have become lifelong friends. We've had many crazy adventures along the way...from tornadoes and wind and sand storms to a pandemic. Thank YOU for coming along for the adventurous ride. Those that know me, know my kids have grown up as jbf kids, helping both weeks before and during the sale. I am thankful for a community that has helped nurture them to grow into amazing young adults. Again, thank you!To those that have been there to help along the way, JBF could not have happened without you! Your dedication and support means so much and I am so thankful for you. Please remember to continue to support other local businesses.I pray that the New Year brings you many, many abundant blessings. Thanks again for the adventures...and I'll see you around!
Carrie
The Impact of JBF on the Texas Panhandle Community
I may have been a little late finding out about the Just Between Friends Sale, but I did shop there for about five of the seven years it was going on. As Laila got older, she loved shopping and picking out toys, books, and even clothes. I had even put items in the consignment sale once Laila outgrew them. It was a win to make money and save money.
I am sad that it has come to an end. I will miss the friends I have made through stopping in and shopping each and every sale in Amarillo. It is going to be a missed event for the many families looking to save money.
