Kick off the Summer with AC’s New June Jazz Series
Looking for free, high-quality entertainment this summer? Amarillo College’s June Jazz has you covered. Since 1995, Amarillo College’s Washington Street campus has been home to four free summer concerts.
Every Tuesday evening in June, the grassy campus fills. Several hundred music lovers, young and old, settle onto lawn chairs and blankets—many with dogs—sporting everything from Sonic cups and fries to bottles of wine and cheese platters. Night students on a homework break sit alongside retired couples. Cooing dog lovers and laughing kids fill the air with pleasant chatter, and suddenly it feels like everyone knows everyone.
A buzz of relaxed anticipation floats hazy overhead as the crowd waits for the show to start, but once the artists take the stage, everything quiets down, fervent applause making way for smooth piano and bright brass.
It’s a perfect way to spend an Amarillo summer night, and this year, we get two extra shows! Due to popular demand, June Jazz will extend into July with additional concerts on the first two Tuesdays of the month, giving us not four, but six free concerts!
The lineup consists of homegrown talent who now hail both from Amarillo and across the country, many of the artists themselves alumni of AC.
The show runs from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. (around sunset) in front of the Experimental Theater every Tuesday this month, and the first two Tuesdays of next month; seating is first come first serve, and all ages are welcome. Bring your kids, friends, pets, and your own refreshments, and settle in for a night of community, fellowship, and entertainment.
Visit AC's Website for more details. Enjoy!
