
Local Restaurants Expand Free Meal Program for Families in Need
One of the things I love about Amarillo is how big our hearts are. We love to help out. We want to be part of the solution, not the problem. That has been evident during the Government Shutdown.

There have been families affected, simply because they are not getting a paycheck. More families started to feel that hurt with the SNAP Benefits not being available in November.

When Families Struggle, Local Businesses Step Up
It's no surprise that we do not want to see anyone go hungry. While some have plenty, others are now worrying about their next meal. So it is also not really a surprise to see businesses that have already stepped up trying to help.
There have been stores that have tried to help that have been told to stop. That doesn't seem very caring. The good news is we are just all trying to help each other. Especially here in November. The month of being thankful for what we have.
From Big Jim’s Pizza to K-N Root Beer
Food has to be pretty close to top of that list. That is why it's great to see another business jump in to help. To be fair, Big Jim's Pizza was pretty much the first to jump on the helpful wagon.
A Growing Program with a Big Impact
The owner, Jim Dewitz, also owns K-N Root Beer so this is really not a surprise that now they are jumping in to give families more options. I mean come on what kid doesn't love pizza and grilled cheese? This is definitely a win on K-N Root Beer's social media:
The SNAP Kids Program Is Growing!
The SNAP Kids Program that started at Big Jim’s Pizza is now expanding to KN Root Beer! We’re excited to serve even more families right here in Amarillo.Families with SNAP benefits can now bring their kids by KN Root Beer for a free grilled cheese sandwich.Just show your SNAP card and driver’s license or photo ID, and your kids can enjoy a warm meal — on us.Kids must be present to receive their free meal.
We’re grateful to continue finding ways to give back and make sure no child goes hungry!
