MiLB, Sod Poodles, Announce Delay To Start Of 2020 Season
Today has seen a flood of headlines regarding cancellations and postponements due to concerns over COVID-19. Pretty much every type of event that gathers crowds has either been canceled or postponed.
That now also includes the start of Minor League Baseball's 2020 season.
This was the statement released by Minor League Baseball (MiLB) earlier today:
In light of the current coronavirus outbreak, and after consultation with medical professionals and our partners at Major League Baseball, Minor League Baseball will delay the start of the 2020 Championship Season. We will continue to monitor the developments and will announce additional information about the 2020 season at a later date. We will work with Major League Baseball and our community partners to resume play as soon as it is safe to do so. The health and safety of Minor League Baseball fans, players and executives is our top priority, and our thoughts are with those around the world who have been affected by this outbreak.
This statement came on the heels of the announcement that the MLB was going to suspend Spring Training games, and delay the start of the season by two weeks.
The Sod Poodles then issued this statement regarding the start of the season:
We understand that Major League Baseball has suspended the remainder of Spring Training while both MLB and MiLB will delay the start of the 2020 season due to national emergency created by the coronavirus pandemic. As an affiliate of a Major League Baseball Club, this decision will impact the start of the Amarillo Sod Poodles’ 2020 season. The safety of our fans, players, and employees is of the utmost importance to the Sod Poodles and we fully support Major League Baseball’s and Minor League Baseball’s decisions. We will be closely monitoring any new guidance from Major League Baseball, Minor League Baseball, and City of Amarillo Health officials. As we receive more information regarding suspended play and how that fully impacts the 2020 season in Amarillo, we will make those details available.
As a result, the on-sale date of Sod Poodles' single-game ticket sales scheduled for Saturday, March 14 has been postponed until further notice.
So you'll have to wait to get those single game tickets that were supposed to go on sale this weekend.
At this time, the best that baseball fans can do is watch for updates, as the MiLB and MLB have promised to offer more information at a "later date."
