So when they started the whole parking situation in downtown Amarillo it was a mess from the beginning. The paying to park all started with the addition of the Sod Poodles in Amarillo. I get it. Make money off of parking. A lot of cities charge for parking.

The problem was the paid meters were only from 8 am through 5 pm. So very few Sod Poodles games had that issue. You only had to pay to park if you couldn't find a place to park on the street during a game. Unless you decided to walk a bit.

The mess has been that some local businesses have been affected. If a customer wanted to run in for a quick errand they had to park and walk a distance. Their other option would be to download their app and pay money to run in for your errand.

It made no sense. Trust me the cop downtown would for sure get you and be happy to write you a ticket. She is good at it. So you will not get a reprieve. Or will you? It looks like now they are finally making things a little easier.

It all started yesterday. Something that makes a lot of sense. You can now park in downtown Amarillo and not worry about paying. You only have a thirty-minute window but hey they are giving you something.

You will still have to have the parking app on your phone. You will have to open the app and add the zone that is on the green sign where you are parking. You will then select thirty-minute parking. It will confirm no charge. Which is definitely nice.

The app will also warn you when you are approaching the end of your free thirty minutes. So that is nice. This is something that should have been in place from the beginning. It never made sense. Luckily they fixed that one problem.

Now you can run your quick errands in downtown Amarillo and not have to worry about getting a ticket when you quickly have to run inside. You don't have to worry about paying to park. Just get all your errands done in that thirty minutes.
