There is no surprise that there is a huge shortage of workers here in Amarillo. We see businesses all over with help wanted signs. I understand the argument on both sides. I see people who complain that with the unemployment benefits, why work?

I also see the unemployed who had jobs that they have lost. Since then they can't find a job that pays them a livable wage. There is a disconnect. The extra unemployment money is set to go away at the end of the month. There will be no more extra money handed out. Some people think that will fix the problems.

Employers are looking for ways to get people in the door applying and accepting the job offer. We saw how Taco Villa worked to get applicants. They offered gift cards.

Now another place in Amarillo is trying not only to get applicants but giving an incentive to get them to accept a job offer. I was scrolling through Facebook and saw this photo earlier.

This came from a local business owners own page. She is frustrated with the lack of people coming to apply in her own place of business. She just wants to see everyone getting back to work. I get how she feels.

Yes, Arby's (and this came from the location on Coulter) is offering money. They want to give you $225 as a sign on bonus. That is nice. Getting people to work is great. Just make sure you like the place you are going to work. Make sure you do your research. There are a lot of great places that need you right now to work. Just don't go work somewhere for a quick bonus that will be gone. You may not be happy in the long run. So make sure you are happy. Life is too short.

I just can't wait until I can go into any local business and they are all up to full staff. This will be a great day for Amarillo.
