Even though the calendar still says winter in Amarillo, the weather is making us think more about spring. We are getting closer to spring break, and you may be dreaming of a spring break adventure.

Your bank account may be leading you more to staying in town and having a fun adventure in Amarillo. Luckily, our city has a lot to offer. We all know that spring break can be exciting for kids, but you know it's exhausting for the parents.

If you are staying in town, you want to make sure you can give the kids a fun time while still keeping them busy and ready to crawl into bed at the end of the day. We want to wear them out with all the fun, cost-effective activities.

Get Outdoors: Amarillo Parks and Canyon Adventures

Luckily, we have great city parks that have plenty of space and fun playground equipment. Grab a kite because you know Amarillo always offers great wind for flying. You can enjoy the walking trails and make sure to bring a bike or scooter for more outdoor fun.

If you venture over to Medi Park, or what is now named John Ward Memorial Park, you can also do some fishing off the pier or feed the ducks. Just don't bring bread; it isn't healthy for ducks. Opt for bite-sized foods like seedless grapes cut in half, corn, oats, and even birdseed.

You can even take a daytrip to Palo Duro Canyon and enjoy a hike or just take in the beauty. There is so much to see as you walk around. The wildlife, the wildflowers, and the stunning sunrises and sunsets. A day in the canyon will keep your kiddos happy and tired.

Hands-On Fun: Where Learning Meets Play

Amarillo has a lot of places for fun and learning. The kids will never argue with you about heading over to the Don Harrington Discovery Center. You can learn about dinosaurs or just let them run around and find hands-on activities.

The Ultimate Life Hack: Staying Cool and Active at the Zoo

The Amarillo Zoo also offers a lot of fun for the family. Just walking around can burn off a lot of energy. Don't miss out on the bobcats. My granddaughter can hang out there exclusively and have all of the fun in the world. However, I love to sneak indoors and hang out with the snakes and other reptiles. Mainly to get a little air conditioning. It's a life hack you need.

Non-Stop Action: High-Energy Indoor Hubs

If you are looking for a little more intensity, don't miss out on taking the family to Urban Air Adventure Park inside Westgate Mall. A trip there or to Amp'd! Adventure Park will give them a day of fun and drain a lot of energy. What is the ultimate goal for Spring Break? Tired kids.

Don't forget you can also head over to Cinergy Entertainment, where you can chill and watch a movie or have a blast with the Gel Blasters. There is something for the whole family. Even a little friendly bowling competition or head to try your luck in the escape rooms.

Spring Break doesn’t have to mean expensive trips or packed schedules. Often, the best days are simply the ones where kids get to move, explore, and come home happily tired. Amarillo offers plenty of ways to make that happen — whether it’s wide-open outdoor space, hands-on learning, or indoor adventures built for nonstop energy.

And if the kids fall asleep early afterward? That might be the biggest spring break win of all.
