The Man Behind the Signs – Stanley Marsh

If you’ve driven through older Amarillo neighborhoods, you’ve likely spotted those quirky street signs. They look like a traffic sign, but they have odd sayings. Over the years, some of these signs have disappeared.

They were taken down at the request of the property owner; they may have been stolen or destroyed. Some were even just painted over. You can still find a lot of these signs while driving around Amarillo. These signs, like many Stanley Marsh–inspired oddities, are pure Amarillo.

You can still see the Cadillac Ranch, the giant legs on I-27, and of course, these signs. Recently, I have driven around to see how many I could actually find on a random weekend day.

How to Spot the Most Iconic Signs

I figured there was somewhere online that listed where they all were located. I could not find any such record, but it wasn't hard to notice how many were still around. It's a part of Amarillo that is still standing after around thirty years. The signs of Amarillo, Texas.
