Sunday Surprise: Amarillo location Turns Out to Be Closed
There are some food places in Amarillo that we just expect to be closed on Sunday. I am talking to you Chick-fil-A. We know we can't get your deliciousness on the Lord's Day. We have just come to expect that.
They are not the only place that is closed on Sunday. I get that. You look at many places around town and just expect to check on Sunday's if you can eat there or not. I run into this a lot when I am out DoorDashing. I know there are several places in my neighborhood that I will not be asked to pick up from on Sunday.
I will say that I remember back when I taught Sunday School the kids, and teachers alike, looked forward to the donuts that the staff bought before class. My daughter would grab a cherry donut. I would grab the Bavarian cream. That was our start to Sunday School.
So donuts and Sunday go hand-in-hand. Until they don't. I know that in the back of my mind I knew this but it still somehow came to surprise me. My buddy and I were walking yesterday down Georgia Street.
We always walk by The Donut Stop. I thought I was a bit hungry and how a donut might help me on the walk. Especially since we just started. I looked over at the The Donut Stop on Georgia and realized there was not one car in their parking lot. I was a little shocked. It was Sunday. Then I remembered that location was closed on Sundays.
I know the one on Bell Street is open. That was still just a little hike before we would get there. I wanted my donut and I needed it now. I know that. The Donut Stop has gone through a lot of changes since they changed ownership years ago.
The one on Amarillo Boulevard closed down. The location in Canyon is gone too. Some locations have a different menu. I know I can get kolaches from Bell Street but not Georgia Street. Oh, and the Georgia location does not open on Sunday.
In this ever changing landscape of businesses in Amarillo we have to learn to roll with the punches. Even if this punch sort of stings in the moment.
