Dasher Diary: This Amarillo Taco Bell Order Had 53 Items, But Here’s Why
When you are out delivering food in Amarillo, there are a few things you notice before you accept an order. I like to pay attention to where I am picking up from. There are some restaurants that you’re assigned to, and you know the customer likely didn’t tip.
What Drivers Look for Before Accepting an Order
You may choose to decline those if you can. You also pay attention to the mileage. You don't want to deliver from Amarillo to Canyon for no tip. That just kills your car, and you may choose not to do those long deliveries.
If you are delivering by order, you will pay attention to the tip. You will decide if it is worth it for you. Again, you have to consider your time and your car with its gas mileage. Then there are other things after you accept that you will notice.
One big thing is the number of items and how many of them were drinks. Drinks can be an issue. If you have to deliver more than four drinks, it can sometimes be a pain. I do have sturdy drink holders that I can easily carry six drinks. If there are more than that, I need to use two of my carriers. That is all I have.
The Struggle with Drink Deliveries
Many restaurants have very flimsy drink carriers, so you have to be prepared on your own. You also have to make sure the customer doesn't try to run off with those carriers if they are yours personally. I always tell them that those are mine and will hand them the drinks.

You also have to notice how much food is ordered. Recently, I got an order to pick up from Taco Bell. I paid attention to everything I needed to up to that point. So I looked at the food order on the way to the restaurant. That is when I noticed there were fifty-three items I needed to pick up.
The Reality Behind Big Orders
I'm not going to lie, that is when my heart dropped a little. I had to look at the order a little closer. Taco Bell is famous for an order like this. When I looked at it closer, it wasn't as big an order as I originally feared.
When Sauce Becomes the Main Course
Luckily, Taco Bell lets the customer add as many sauces as they want with the order. So this particular food order did have a decent amount of food. They ordered thirteen food items. The rest was sauces.
They requested forty sauce packets. I don't know if Taco Bell counted out every sauce packet since the bag was sealed. Good for them, they wanted forty sauce packets for thirteen burritos, tacos, and nachos.
That might have been a little overkill, but the restaurant said it was in the bag, and that is all that matters.
