When you drive in downtown Amarillo the one building you can't help but notice in our skyline is what was once called the Chase Towers. It is now the FirstBank Southwest Towers but it is the tallest building in our city.

Did you know that building has a twin? There is another building in our great United States that is very similar to our thirty-one-story building in downtown Amarillo. You would have to make a trip to the Sunshine State to see our twin in person.

This twin of ours is not as tall. I mean how could it be? Everything is bigger and better in Texas so the FirstBank Southwest tower has to tower over the other. Maybe tower is not the correct word as it is only about three stories higher but we will take it.

There is a building in Fort Lauderdale that looks an awful lot like our FirstBank Southwest tower. It is not by coincidence. In fact, if you look up their Wikipedia page there is no doubt.

One Financial Plaza bears a striking resemblance to the Chase Tower in Amarillo, Texas. They were built around the same time (Chase Tower opened in 1971, the year before One Financial Plaza opened) and Chase Tower is only a few floors taller, at 31 stories.

The One Financial Plaza in downtown Fort Lauderdale stands at twenty-eight stories tall and yes, is a twin of the FirstBank Southwest Tower (aka the Chase Tower) in Amarillo.

So they say that everyone in the world has a twin out there. You may run into them. You may not. We are lucky to know exactly where the FirstBank Southwest Tower's twin is located. I don't think they will ever run into each other, though.

EXPLORE: A Rare Look Inside the Old Santa Fe Depot in Downtown Amarillo

The old Santa Fe depot is one of the oldest buildings in Amarillo. Located at 401 S. Grant, the historic depot has sat empty for several decades. The depot is in remarkably good condition for such a long stretch of vacancy, and the City of Amarillo has plans to bring the station back to life.

In the meantime....enjoy this rare look behind the locked doors of the old Santa Fe depot.
