There was a debate earlier among some friends. We were discussing the oldest restaurant in Amarillo. We have had several that have been around for a pretty long time.

We have had several that have opened in one location and moved over the years. We were discussing places that have been in one location the whole time. The one that came to mind was The Golden Light. It says right on their sign that they were established in 1946.

We are a few years ago from celebrating their eightieth year on Route 66. I mean what a perfect location. What a perfect place for a perfectly greasy burger. Golden Light is already a local favorite.

So much so that they even added a second location not that long ago. Golden Light Beer and Wine Garden at 6014 S Western. Oh, but don't worry the original is still waiting for you to satisfy that burger craving.

Now I must warn you if you are heading to the original location at lunch you need to make sure you get there early. Yeah, they do fill up pretty fast. Of course they do. If you go on a weekend and get some shopping down 6th Street and want to grab lunch, you will be waiting.

It's most definitely a wait that is worth it when you sink your teeth into that first bite. That Aaron's Habanero Burger is the way I tend to go. Check out their full menu HERE. Hey if you want live music they have that for you as well next door. Weekends were made for The Golden Light Cantina. Keep an eye on their live music schedule HERE.

Just know that whether you are going out for lunch, dinner or a show there is a lot of history at The Golden Light. A lot of memories inside the oldest restaurant in Amarillo.
