Unity Event in Amarillo Offers Haircuts, Backpacks & BBQ
We know that the summer is starting to wind down in Amarillo when the schools start registration. They start releasing school supply lists. Stores then start to have their Back-to-School sales. The talk of the Tax Free weekend starts flowing.
Why Amarillo Families Are Excited for School Bash
It's that time. The kids are not all excited. Some are ready for the new year. Some aren't ready to get on a schedule. I feel like the parents are starting the countdown. It's getting closer to getting the home back. The toys all cleaned up. The pantry is not looking so empty after late-night raids.
Event Details: When, Where & What to Expect
Whether you are looking forward to it or not it is about here. There are going to be community events planned as well. One of the biggest ones is put on by Tremaine Brown and Shi Lee's BBQ and Soul Food. It has been announced - Unity in the Community.
It's going to be a water bash out at Bones Hook Park - 2000 N Hughes Street on August 2nd, kicking off at noon. There will be water fun, as the name implies. They will provide food because Shi Lee's always does.
One big change to be aware of is that if you have kids in Bushland ISD, they adopted a 4-day school week, which means the kids don't have school on most Fridays.

A Message of Unity From Event Founder, Tremaine Brown:
The whole purpose of throwing a Unity in the Community event is for the WHOLE Amarillo community to have a chance to come together. The struggle of getting kids prepared for school knows no color, no geographical boundaries. This is not a Northside event. This is an event for the whole city to enjoy one another. We just have it on the Northside because there's absolutely nothing on this side of town to do, so we manufacture fun.
The event will also make sure every child is ready to go back to school:
But everyone is invited! Black, white, blue, brown, purple, green, yellow, and every color in between. Come register your kids for backpacks, school supplies, haircuts, and more. If you don't need any of that, come have some fun in the sun. Don't be scared to COME OUTSIDE!
Free Backpacks, Haircuts & More for Kids
As the kiddos are getting used to the idea of going back to school, make sure they head out for one of the last fun days in the sun. It's going to be a great time as always.
